TIMELINE

ORIGINS & BACKGROUND

born in the late 30th century, bart allen is the son of don allen and meloni thawne. his parents were of two rival families. his mother was the daughter of the earthgov president.bart was born with his grandfather's (barry allen's) speed, which was of great interest to earthgov and the dominators (an alien race). the dominators kidnapped baby bart, wanting to experiment on him, but earthgov retrieved him. they did not return him to his family.instead, they kept him isolated and studied him, but did not cure him - bart had a hypermetabolism that could not shut down, and he was aging at an accelerated rate. at age one, he looked two, and at age two, he looked twelve. he was raised on a virtual reality system that was engineered to match the speed of his growth; information and entertainment were given to him at super speed, to avoid stunting his emotional and mental growth.his only human contact at this time was iris west-allen, his grandmother.earthgov was making no effort to "cure" bart and iris knew that he would end up dying in their "care."iris managed to take bart away from earthgov, and took him back to the past (20th century in the comics, here it's the 21st). there, iris hoped wally west would be able to help bart learn to control his speed. to an extent he did, and his hypermetabolism stopped aging him so rapidly.he still struggled with functioning in the outside world, understanding the concept of danger, and with other people, among other things, so he moved in with max mercury.max got bart the identity papers he needed to be able to go to school and try to adjust to as normal a life as possible, while being the superhero "impulse."
bart's father is dead. he did not know either of his parents, but his mother showed up out of the blue to take him back to the 30th century; she ended up making a bargain to keep him safe, and they have since been separated again.

𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 : bart can vibrate his molecules, which allows him to phase through objects, like walls or weapons. he's also been shown to be able to move groups of people through walls with him, though he has to vibrate incredibly fast to do this, and it's hard to slow down afterward.
𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙨 : bart can create 'scouts,' which are energy-like extensions of himself which he can send out. when he reabsorbs them he absorbs their memories. these scouts are capable of communicating and traveling through time-streams. if they are hurt, it does hurt bart. for example, once there was a scout who was entirely obliterated and bart was sent into shock, resulting in a coma that lasted several days.

this goes hand in hand with his adhd. essentially, what rsd entails is emotional sensitivity as a result of perceived or real rejection or criticism from others. these emotional reactions can also be triggered by not fulfilling his own or others' expectations of him.
rsd for bart typically manifests in depressive symptoms, low self esteem, and feeling like a failure.
rsd is not simply an emotional reaction to criticism; it often has a physical sensation to accompany the emotion, as though one has been punched in the chest, for example.

𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙘 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙨
there have been a few times in the comics where bart has experienced something that very much appeared to be a panic attack. both times it happened when bart went too fast - once when coming to the current century and he physically couldn't slow down at all, and once again when bart had to vibrate past his limits with young justice to get their large group through a solid object.
bart is also prone to these when he's incredibly overwhelmed.

𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙚
bart does not currently see a therapist nor does he take medication. for one thing, his metabolism would burn through the medication too quickly for it to have any sort of effect. for another, there was an issue where bart lost his powers and bart was incredibly sluggish and could barely function. so even if medication could have any effect, he would not be likely to take it due to this.

MISC. FACTS to keep in mind when interacting with bart

he has a very vivid imagination.being from the future, he has some different slang terms that he uses sometimes (ex: "grife" in place of shit/damn)sometimes he isn't familiar with current slang and thinks people mean things literally (ex: in the comics, someone called someone else a "tool" and bart was imagining their face on literal tools)there are a lot of things you would consider basic that bart has had to learn to do much later in life. for example, he didn't know how to write until he was technically 14, at his first day at school. he's an incredibly fast learner, but there are a lot of things he hasn't caught up with, for various reasons.because bart spent most of his life in isolation, he's not always the best at relating with other people. he's not great with social cues or social expectations.he has a very high metabolism and has to eat a lot to keep up with how much energy he expels. this metabolism also usually prevents him from getting sick.sitting still can be really, physically agonizing for him.he doesn't really understand the idea of religious faith. he much prefers how max defined faith instead, and generally prefers to put his faith in people than abstract concepts.

bart is good at a lot of sports but he's generally discouraged from participating in them with others because he has an unfair advantage. he really likes to skateboard, though.bart knows how to play the guitar and is excellent at drums. he is self taught.he is OBSESSED with videogames and can even be seen playing them when he's being briefed with his team.comic books!!!he's also pretty good at drawing.he loves pokemon!
